Tourism Whistler Departments

Activity & Information Centre: The Whistler Activity & Information Centre is Whistler's official resource for all in-resort information, activity bookings and transportation. The Activity & Information Centre generates economic growth to Whistler Resort by offering a broad range of products and providing quick, accurate and friendly service.

Building Operations: The mission of the Building Operations team is to deliver the highest possible building standards in cleanliness, comfort, safety and quality finishing. The department provides prompt and professional service to internal and external customers and identifies leading edge technology solutions which economically meet the needs of clients.

Communications: The Communications department is responsible for overseeing communications for Tourism Whistler and Whistler. This involves the direction of the travel and news media relations programs promoting Whistler, member communications for Tourism Whistler, and other Tourism Whistler and industry-wide stakeholder communications. The department covers media relations, messaging and issues management; direction for the travel media visit program; direction for communications tools development; and establishment and maintenance of travel media, Tourism Whistler member, and industry partner relationships.

Conference Sales: The mission of the Conference Sales Department is to generate revenue and room nights for the Telus Whistler Conference Centre and achieve set targets in the areas of meetings, conferences, product launches and exhibitions. The aim is to win large resort wide conference groups to Whistler that impact the whole resort and enhance awareness of Whistler as the ideal meeting destination year round. Strategic alliances with industry partners such as the Canadian Tourism Commission, Tourism British Columbia, Tourism Vancouver, Tourism Victoria and airline partners assist in strengthening our message to meeting planners and third party organizers. Conference Sales focus on the following key markets to generate year round room nights and revenues to the resort:

  • Canadian Association Markets
  • Canadian Corporate Markets
  • USA Corporate Markets
  • USA Association Markets
  • Niche areas: Religious Groups, Sports Tourism Groups

Conference Services: Conference Services oversees the execution of all meetings, conferences and events/festivals taking place within the Telus Whistler Conference Centre. The department works very closely with the contracted caterer, Building Operations and Conference Sales in ensuring the utmost experience of our conference guests.

Events: The mission of the Events Department is to help streamline the event organizing process for event producers as well as help promote and grow festivals and special events that increase visits to Whistler and/or enhance the guest experience resulting in greater return visits to Whistler. The Events Department has in place strong partnerships with Whistler’s Resort Partners, event producers and Tourism Whistler Members that support the key marketing objectives of the Resort.

Executive: Tourism Whistler is responsible for developing coordinated strategies in the areas of marketing and sales to promote the entire Resort. This responsibility includes the operations of the TELUS Whistler Conference Centre, The Whistler Golf Club, www.tourismwhistler.com, www.whistler.com, 1-800-Whistler and resort wide Visitor Services.

Finance: The mission of the Finance Department is to practice objective and unbiased stewardship of the financial resources of Tourism Whistler. The Finance Department will build and maintain professional relationships with Members, Customers and Vendors and will continue to support our internal customers in achieving their targets and objectives by proactively providing accurate, reliable financial information

Human Resources: The mission of the Human Resources (HR) Department is to foster a culture of exceptional service, continuous learning and high performance ensuring our Employees are supported, valued and engaged. HR supports the fulfillment of Tourism Whistler’s goals and objectives through proactive programs that attract, retain, motivate and develop staff. HR facilitates the integration of Employee’s personal goals and objectives with organizational goals and objectives, resulting in growth and success for both staff and Tourism Whistler.

Information Technology: The mission of the Information Technology (IT) Department is to give you the IT tools you need to do your job. The IT Department offers responsive, friendly support to ensure that everything works for you and you can get to the job at hand; improving overall effectiveness and productivity.

Leisure Sales: The mission of the Leisure Sales Department is to take a leadership role in generating consumer awareness of Whistler via the consumer directly, the trade groups and the media in key overseas markets, thus increasing year-round business to Whistler. Leisure Sales stimulates consumer awareness and develops and nurtures travel trade, incentive, and media relationships to generate leads, optimize business and provide market intelligence to our Member partners. Leisure sales focus on the following key markets to generate year round room nights to the resort:

  • North America
  • UK
  • Australia
  • Mexico
  • Japan
  • China (emerging market)
  • Niche areas: Gay and Lesbian Groups, Ski Councils, Mountain Biking Groups

Marketing Services: The role of the Marketing Services Department is to raise brand awareness of Whistler and generate sales by developing consumer packages and booking incentives, integrated North American advertising campaigns, Member co-operative advertising programs, and direct marketing initiatives. Marketing Services also coordinates the production of all sales and marketing tools (e.g. collateral, websites and digital tools) and oversees the production of digital assets (e.g. photography, virtual tours, videos).

Partnerships & Promotions: The mission of the Partnerships & Promotions Department is to capitalize on marketing opportunities realized through strategic programs with in-resort, industry and external partners. The department leverages existing partnerships to expand and build upon current marketing activities, and pursues new relationships to add value through growing revenues, increasing marketing reach and frequency, and growing awareness of Whistler, all lending to the overall goal of driving business to the Resort.

Research: The mission of the Research Department is to provide Tourism Whistler Members and internal departments with timely, relevant, user-friendly research to facilitate strategic sales and marketing initiatives. The Research Department focuses its resources in two distinct areas: tracking of resort-wide key business indicators; and measuring target market and segment trends, attitudes and perceptions of Whistler.

The Visitor Centre and Tourism Whistler Activity and Information Centre generate economic growth in tourism to Whistler Resort by offering a broad range of products and providing quick, accurate and friendly service.

Whistler Golf Club: The mission of the Whistler Golf Club is to work in co-operation with its in-resort partners to establish Whistler as the Number One Mountain Golf Destination in North America. The Whistler Golf Club provides leadership to the Four Course Co-op by setting the standard for guest service, course conditions, quality facilities and innovative marketing and sales.

Whistler.com: Tourism Whistler operates Whistler.com which delivers visitors to the resort by promoting and selling Whistler through a comprehensive, user-friendly website and through effective conversion and retention programs, thereby contributing to the viability of all resort partners and stakeholders.
